Datsuns have been our main specialty since 1977 when Greg and Vince Whitehead started Metric Motion. After owning, driving, and modifying a Datsun 240Z and Datsun 510 since 1970, they felt the time was right to make a business of servicing and modifying the Datsun 240z 260z 280z, the Datsun 510 and the Datsun B210. Performance upgrades back then included exhaust system, header, camshaft, cylinder head porting, big bore engine, side draft carb install, carb tuning, springs, shocks, sway bars, and upgraded brakes. Race car prep and building was also a significant part of the business right from the start.
After a brief hiatus in the early 80’s Greg and Vince were back as Sanroc Performance in 1983, just in time for Datsun to change their name to Nissan and the introduction of the Z31 Nissan 300zx and 300zx Turbo. During this period we gained lots of experience on the 280zx and 300zx turbo cars installing HKS boost and injector controllers, HKS turbo upgrade kits, Spearco intercooler kits, ECU upgrades, and custom exhaust systems.
1990 saw a new era with the Z32 Nissan 300zx and Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo. We were fortunate enough to start modifying one of the 1st 300zx TT cars in Canada in early 1990, performing turbo, suspension, and Skyline brake upgrades that 1st year. Since then, we’ve had over 20 years experience servicing and modifying the Z32 300zx.
In 2000, Greg changed the name to Whitehead Performance reflecting the fact he was now sole owner of the business. With the change in name came a change in focus by offering a new level of commitment to the Nissan Datsun community. There was a resurgence of interest in the early Datsun 240z 260z and 280z cars starting at that time and we were there for our customers with an expanded array of restoration and refurbishment services to meet their evolving needs.
In 2003, we were ready for the introduction of the Nissan 350z and have installed many exhaust systems, headers, cold air intake systems, coilovers, swaybars, spring and shock kits, G35 350z turbo kits, G35 350z supercharger kits, and brake upgrades.
Continuing on with the newest member of the Z car family, we are now installing exhaust systems, cold air intake, and spring and shock kits on the Nissan 370Z. Our first Nissan 370Z turbo kit install will be happening later this season. We are also involved this year in a performance engine and transaxle build for the new Nissan GT-R and will have more details about these exciting developments as they happen.
